FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

REPEAT CHAMPIONS: MORRISON & FOERSTER AND GIBSON DUNN & CRUTCHER REMAIN NO.
1 IN CALIFORNIA, ACCORDING TO 2014 VAULT REGIONAL LAW FIRM RANKINGS

New York, NY, (July 10, 2013) Today, Vault.com released its Regional Law Rankings for 2014.
Survey respondents rated Morrison & Foerster the No. 1 firm in Northern California and Gibson
Dunn & Crutcher the leader in Southern California. The victories marked a three-year winning
streak for MoFo and a fourth straight appearance for Gibson Dunn at the top of the California
regional charts.

“While our Vault Law 100 provides a broad overview of the most prestigious firms in the nation,
legal practice is largely local throughout most of the country. Our Regional Rankings offer
jobseekers a more targeted perspective on the top firms in specific legal markets,” said Vera
Djordjevich, Vault.com’s Director of Research and Consulting.

“Today’s rankings reflect the insights of attorneys on the strengths of peer firms within their
geographic region,” added Djordjevich. “The law firms in our Regional Rankings include firms that
may be renowned nationally or even internationally as well as locally; regardless of size, what they
all have in common is that they have established themselves as leaders in their area.”

The Top 10 Northern California firms based on Vault’s Annual Law Firm Associate Survey are:

1.    Morrison & Foerster

2.    Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati

3.    Latham & Watkins

4.    Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe

5.    Quinn Emanuel

6.    Fenwick & West

7.    Gibson Dunn & Crutcher

8.    Cooley

9.    Keker & Van Nest

10.  Skadden Arps

Morrison & Foerster was founded in San Francisco at the end of the 19th century and, while it has
evolved beyond its Bay Area roots, it still maintains its “West Coast cool” reputation. Well known for
its work with Silicon Valley giants such as Apple and Oracle, Morrison & Foerster is described by
our survey respondents as “huge in California and IP,” “great internationally,” and the “doorway to
Asia.” Associates at other firms consider MoFo attorneys “the cool kids” and envy the firm’s “fun
atmosphere.”  One respondent notes, “I used them as outside counsel when I was a GC and was so
impressed.”

In other news coming out of the Northern California rankings, Orrick climbed back up to the No. 4
spot it held two years ago; Fenwick leaped three spots to No. 6; and Gunderson Dettmer continued
its climb, moving from No. 21 two years ago to No. 19 last year, and now No. 18 in the current
rankings.

The Top 10 Southern California firms based on Vault’s Annual Law Firm Associate Survey are:

1.    Gibson Dunn

2.    Latham & Watkins

3.    Irell & Manella

4.    Munger, Tolles & Olson

5.    O’Melveny & Myers

6.    Quinn Emanuel

7.    Skadden Arps

8.    Paul Hastings

9.    Kirkland & Ellis / Morrison & Foerster (tie)
