Monica Sorenson rewarded by district for helping cover up the
facts in the Maura Larkins' case (and perhaps other cases)?

Being chosen as a principal is an indication that the candidate has practiced political
correctness as defined by the district.  If the district feels you're not loyal, it doesn't matter how
good an administrator you are.  You won't be hired.

Chula Vista district has new principals

CHULA VISTA: Three new principals have recently been appointed to run campuses in the
Chula Vista Elementary School District.

Richard Hanks, who had been principal at Palmer Way Elementary School in National City, will
lead Hedenkamp Elementary in eastern Chula Vista.

Monica Sorenson, who had been a teachers union leader in the district, will serve as principal of
Chula Vista Hills Elementary.

Del Merlan, an educator from Central California, has been appointed principal of Casillas
Elementary. Five associate principals also were promoted to principal.

The school year begins July 27. –C.M.

Relationship
How does one get elected to CVE office?

First of all, you don't ask too many questions about illegal activities.  If you
do, then CVE and CTA leaders can't trust you, can they?

Second, you have to have Jim Groth's support.  To get it, you have to agree
not to criticize wrongdoing.  Monica Sorenson kept her mouth shut for four
years.

Then Monica Sorenson became Vice President of CVE in 2007.  As a lawyer,
she risked more than the other CVE directors when she kept her mouth shut
about crimes committed by CVE.  She could conceivably lose her license to
practice law if the California Bar Association were ever to demand that
lawyers not suborn perjury and commit crimes on behalf of powerful
organizations like CTA.  But that doesn't seem likely to happen.  So Monica
felt safe, along with CTA chief counsel
Beverly Tucker and her subordinate,
Michael Hersh, who clearly feel that the law profession, particularly when it
is combined with political power, is untouchable.

Electrifies Chargers,

The National Football
League named Chula Vista
Hills Elementary an 'NFL
Play 60 Super School.' The
school was awarded a
$10,000 grant to support
students' health and
wellness. Chargers players
Nick Hardwick and Luis
Castillo (pictured)
presented the check at a
spirited assembly on
Tuesday, October 26, that
prompted the Chargers
players and cheerleaders
to say they had never been
more warmly received. The
players and cheerleaders
then joined school staff in
leading students in fitness
activities. Just about every
one of the school's 539
students was adorned in
Chargers blue and gold
jerseys or NFL t-shirts.
Parents were cheering just
as loudly as the students,
"Let's go Char-Gers!"

The NFL’s PLAY 60
campaign encourages
youth to get 60 minutes of
exercise a day and lead a
healthy lifestyle. The
school plans to use the
grant to help with a
proposed track renovation,
which could include fitness
stations at various points
along the track.

"We applied for this
grant by sponsoring an
all school fitness field
day called 'Back to
Football Friday,' "
Principal Monica
Sorenson said.
"The
teachers worked very hard
and all students
participated. We did this in
coordination with Child
Nutrition Services, which
provided an 'A-Z Salad Bar'
on the preceding day in
our efforts to promote good
nutrition. The overall event
was a great success
because the students were
so enthusiastic about
participating."

Why did Monica Sorenson leave her job at Chula Vista Hills
Elementary in the middle of the school year?

Del Mar district names new principal for Torrey Hills

DEL MAR — The Del Mar Union School District has named Monica Sorenson as principal of
Torrey Hills School.

Sorenson comes to the Del Mar district with five years of experience as a principal, most recently
at Chula Vista Hills Elementary, officials said. Before that, she was a teacher for 10 years.

Chula Vista Hills Elementary, under Sorenson’s leadership, received numerous awards and
accolades for its academic and wellness achievements.

The Del Mar district said Sorensen is known as a principal who works well with parents, teachers
and the greater community to create positive and dynamic learning environments in which
students excel.

Sorenson takes the place of Barbara Boone, who left Torrey Hills to take a position as director
of curriculum and instruction at the San Diego County Office of Education
